This award was established in 2025 by Stage North in memory of David Symington. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

David contributed a significant amount of time and energy as an active board member with Stage North and Slave Lake Musical Theater Association, and he taught drama at Roland Michener Secondary School.  The purpose of the award is to provide students graduating from Roland Michener Secondary School and\/or another high school in Slave Lake the opportunity to pursue studies in visual arts and arts-related careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

David’s deep love of education, teaching, music and the performing arts was evident in all his community involvements. His work will be memorialized through this scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are currently accepting 2026 scholarship applications. Application deadline is May 31. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2025: Araya Blize<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Araya (third from left in photo) is a 3rd year student in the Alberta University of the Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Drawing. From a young age, drawing has been a central part of her life. Araya loves visual storytelling with animation, where she finds the power of movement and the power to bring characters and emotions to life. Her academic goal is to build a strong foundation in drawing and animation, with the long-term goal of becoming a concept artist. <\/p>\n<\/div>
